ACS Names Preben Gietz as the Next ACS Athletics & Activities Director

After a global search, ACS is pleased to announce Preben Gietz as the next ACS Athletics & Activities Director, starting the 2022-23 school year.

As an international educator, Preben has more than 10 years of experience in successfully managing athletics and activities programs in schools all over the world.

“Preben brings a combination of a strong track record, a dedication for student empowerment, a collaborative spirit and a passion for co-curricular programs,” said Monique Flickinger, ACS superintendent. “I’d like to personally thank the faculty, staff, students and parents who were involved in this process. Their voice in the process gives me great confidence in this appointment of next year’s Athletics & Activities director.”

Since 2018, Preben has been the Assistant Director of Student Activities at The International School of Beijing in China, a non-profit K-12 school with approximately 1,700 students. Prior to this role, he was a teacher at Bavarian International School in Germany, and from 2014-2017, he was the Athletic and Activities Director at Prem Tinsulanonda International School in Thailand. From 2011-2014, he was the Assistant Athletic Director and After-School Activity Coordinator at St. John’s International School in Belgium.

He holds a master of education in Athletic Administration from Endicott College in the U.S., and a bachelor of arts in Psychology from Clark University in the U.S. He will be joining ACS with his wife, Emily, and one-year-old daughter, Mia.

"I'm so honored to join ACS during this exciting and transformational time in its nearly 50 years of history," said Preben. "Throughout the interview process with staff, parents and students, I enjoyed hearing about the school's strong commitment to its core values, and it became clear that community is at the heart of the school. I knew this was the right place for me and my family. I really look forward to joining ACS next year and continuing to build an athletics and activities program that provides all students with meaningful and challenging learning opportunities."

“As I retire after 9 years at ACS, I am confident that the athletics and activities programs will continue to develop and grow with Preben at the helm,” says Kenny Macaulay, current Director of Athletics & Activities. “I wish Preben and ACS every success in the future – once a Sand Viper, always a Sand Viper!”

We look forward to welcoming Preben and his family to the ACS community. We know Kenny and the entire team will work diligently throughout the rest of this school year to ensure a smooth transition.
